When will I find out if I have been selected as an internship site?
All potential spring internship sites will be notified of their standing late September. All potential summer internship sites will be notified of their standing late November.

How much is the program stipend?
Spring internships: The host site and the APPLES Service-Learning program each contribute $600 per intern, for a total of a $1,200 internship stipend.

Summer internships: The host site and the APPLES Service-Learning program each contribute $1,250 per intern, for a total of a $2,500 internship stipend.

When can I expect to receive a check for APPLES’ half of the stipend?
Internship sites will receive APPLES’ half of the stipend after the internship begins. Interns are to be paid on the host organization’s biweekly or monthly payroll.

Do interns receive academic credit for the spring internship program?
Yes. Spring interns receive 3.0 hours of graded academic credit for a course in the UNC School of Social Work. Summer interns receive 1.0 hour of graded academic credit through online course offered in partnership with the Friday Center and UNC School of Social Work.

How many students will I interview?
The internship committee will narrow the number of applicants interested in your organization to the top two to three students per requested internship spot. The committee will only move the top candidates forward in the process.

Do I have to accept an intern at the end of the process?
APPLES will not make you accept an intern at the end of the process; we hope that you feel that the students you meet are highly qualified and a good fit for your organization. If you feel that you haven’t found a student that fits with your needs you are not obligated to accept them as an intern.

Is the host application process selective?
APPLES co-sponsors 20 spring and 25 summer interns. It is not always possible for us to work with the many sites that submit applications. For this reason, we have added a section to the application where you can illustrate your need for interns. Please be as specific as possible to help us make informed decisions. Applications are available in the APPLES Partner Portal.
