Do interns receive academic credit for the spring internship program?
Yes. Spring interns receive 3.0 hours of graded academic credit for a course in the UNC School of Social Work. Summer interns receive 1.0 hour of graded academic credit through online course offered in partnership with the Friday Center and UNC School of Social Work.
How many students will I interview?
The internship committee will narrow the number of applicants interested in your organization to the top two to three students per requested internship spot. The committee will only move the top candidates forward in the process.
Do I have to accept an intern at the end of the process?
APPLES will not make you accept an intern at the end of the process; we hope that you feel that the students you meet are highly qualified and a good fit for your organization. If you feel that you haven’t found a student that fits with your needs you are not obligated to accept them as an intern.
Is the host application process selective?
APPLES co-sponsors 24 spring and 32 summer interns. It is not always possible for us to work with the many sites that submit applications. For this reason, we have added a section to the application where you can illustrate your need for interns. Please be as specific as possible to help us make informed decisions. Applications are available in the APPLES Partner Portal.
Applications for the spring internship program are posted on the APPLES website in September and summer internship applications are available in December. Check back regularly for updates.

Summer interns work a total of 320 hours over the course of the summer.
