2018 Mingma Norbu Sherpa Fellowship

The Carolina Center for Public Service is accepting applications for the 2018 Mingma Norbu Sherpa Fellowship. The fellowship is named for the late Mingma Norbu Sherpa, a pioneering conservationist in the Himalaya who served as an official with the World Wildlife Fund. 2018-2019 Buckley Public Service Scholars graduate assistant applications

The Carolina Center for Public Service offers support for up to 10 Carolina graduate students to serve as skills training facilitators and share their expertise with undergraduate students engaged in service in the community and on campus. Course Development Institute registration

APPLES Service-Learning’s annual Course Development Institute on Service-Learning will be May 15, 2018. Registration opens March 12. Topics include service-learning pedagogy, faculty course models, partnership development and course design. Faculty and instructors new to service-learning as well as those with experience are encouraged to attend. There is no cost for UNC participants, however, space is limited. APPLES Service-Learning Initiative: Launch 2018 applications

APPLES Service-Learning offers the Service-Learning Initiative (SLI) as a unique student-led introduction to service-learning and the local Chapel Hill-Carrboro community. SLI Launch is a three-day experience for incoming first-year and transfer students to learn about service-learning in the local community. APPLES Service-Learning Course Partnership Grant applications

Students and community partners connected to an APPLES Service-Learning course are eligible to apply for a partnership grant. These grants are intended to benefit the community partner and deepen the service-learning experience for a student. APPLES is offering up to 10 partnership grants of up to $100 each for the current semester. These grants fund supplementary materials for enhancement projects relating to a community partner. APPLES Service-Learning Course Enhancement Grant applications

Each semester, APPLES Service-Learning awards course enhancement grants up to $500 to APPLES faculty. These grants can fund course development materials or support required for APPLES service-learning courses. Past course enhancement grants provided supplies for a community cooking class, funding for a field trip to a nuclear reactor and computer software to assist with community-based research. Apply through the CCPS Application and Nomination Portal by April 27, 2018.

The 2018 class of Buckley Public Service Scholars will be recognized at a graduation event 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, May 11 at Memorial Hall. Graduating seniors have received an invitation and instructions on how to RSVP. Details about the event and how to request tickets will be shared with students after spring break.
