The Carolina Center for Public Service has enriched the student experience, bolstered faculty resources for engaged scholarship and supported partnerships that connect Carolina with communities throughout the state and far beyond.
The work, mission and impact of the Carolina Center for Public Service is at the forefront of the University’s largest fundraising effort to date: the Campaign for Carolina. Our University, the nation’s first public university, proudly serves North Carolina, the nation and the world through teaching, research and public service. Carolina remains steadfast in its commitment to be of the people and for the people by bettering the lives of North Carolinians and the world. To do this, we rely on the generosity of our community of donors, alumni, students, faculty, staff and the state.
Private giving is essential and enables the Center to develop innovative ways for students and faculty to engage, including the Buckley Public Service Scholars program, Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholars program and a host of initiatives through APPLES Service-Learning. Consider these statistics:
- 3,206 students have graduated as Buckley Public Service Scholars since the program’s inception in 2004.
- 63 faculty members, representing more than 25 departments, have participated as Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholars.
- APPLES Service-Learning continues to transform educational experiences by engaging more than 2,000 annual participants in internships, fellowships, alternative breaks and service-learning courses. All together, over 30,000 students have participated in APPLES since the program’s launch in 1990.
